Where we started
Founded in 2017, the Fenwick Football Club Knights (FFC) has grown from 28 players to 75 players over 4 teams. Our mission has always been to provide an affordable opportunity to play soccer at a highly competitive level in an environment that focuses on skills development, position responsibilities and the understanding of soccer strategies. The Coaches, Staff and Board Members firmly believe that a strong foundation learning the sport of soccer contributes to who the players as teenagers and adults become later in life. With this in mind, FFC takes pride in their coaching philosophy of honesty, positivity and dilligently working to present players with high level game and tournament opportunities as well as college recruiting connections for those players that dream of playing after high school. Through mentorship, coaching and caring, the future is bright for the Fenwick Football Club and its players.
HOW WE DO What we do
OUR COACHING PHILOSOPHY
DEVELOPMENT & PROGRESS
Winning is important, and we compete to win, but winning at all costs is not a part of our philosophy. Our records will never define our players. With hard work there will be trophies, but the FFC puts a higher value on developing their young athletes into stars on and off the field more.
It is our desire and goal to be present and give back to the community that supports us. Our players will feel and understand that they play a role in our community through volunteering and being present/visible.
Athletics provides more than just physical benefits. Our club mission is to instill in our players the benefits of teamwork, selflessness, discipline, perseverance and accountability.
HEALTH & WELL-BEING
FFC prepares athletes for the demands of competition on and off the field through learning and following soccer rules and regulations for safe play which is easily translatable into other paths of life including future employment.
What Drives Us
The Fenwick Football Club was first created as a solution to the lack of competitive soccer opportunities in Montcalm and Ionia Counties. Are local athletes have options to play during their respective high school seasons and/or travel sometimes very long distances to play for other soccer clubs outside of their communities. Our goal was and is simple- offer a local, reasonably priced club option with a focus on coaching and mentoring.
Every player will HAVE a number, but no player will ever BE a number in our club.
Our Coaching Staff
Coach Case has been coaching athletes since 1995, first starting as the Strength & Conditioning Coach at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. He has coached soccer since 2000 when he began working with the South Lyon High School Soccer Team as a Conditioning Coach. As a former Keeper, Coach Case spends a lot of time working with Keepers in more specialized training drills.
Coach Case has been an Assistant Coach and a Head Coach for age groups U8 through U19. He currently holds his ‘D license’ and is pursuing his ‘C License’.
Coach Martin began his coaching career as a parent volunteer with the Greenville Recreation Program in 2007. He did not realize at the time how much the sport would grow on him or how big a part of he and his family’s lives, soccer would become. He went from being a fan of his kids to a lover of the game. When asked what he loves so much about coaching, Coach Martin said, “I like to see a lot of individually talented athletes become even better by working together as a team.”
Since 2007, Coach Martin has been both an Assistant Coach and Head Coach for ages U6 through U16. He currently holds his Grass Roots Certification (equivalent to the old ‘E License’) and is pursuing his ‘D License’.
Coach Harrison has been coaching High School and Club soccer for more than 30 years. His extensive experience, commitment to the development of players and his passion for the sport, makes him an extraordinary mentor and role model to our athletes as well as other coaches. Coach Harrison currently holds a ‘D License’.
Coach Betten is the newest addition to our coaching staff. he has coached AYSO soccer for several years and decided in 2019 that he wanted to take his coaching to the next level. He committed to pursing his USSF Grass Roots Certification and is nearly finished with it. He currently coaches our U12 team and we are grateful to have such a passionate and dedicated coach on our team.
